Neutral and Navy Master Bedroom Refresh

Room reveals

To say we are thrilled to see a project finally come together is an understatement. Especially when it involves bringing new life to a well loved space. Late last summer, we worked with our clients to plan the renovation and refresh of their master suite. The final result was a tranquil master bedroom in neutral and navy tones. It also included a total renovation of their master bath and a facelift to the attached guest bedroom (which we will show you soon!). This project finally came to completion this week, and we will be sharing the first of three spaces!

AN INSPIRED START: neutral and navy

Inspiration boards are an integral part of our design process. They help us convey our interpretation of the client’s needs into a tangible vision. The below inspiration boards are where we began this project, and we love how these unfolded into the finished space.

Perhaps the most dramatic part of any project is the before and after images. This existing master bedroom was dark and dated. We not only worked to select a calming and tranquil palette and all decor, but also recommended all new furniture.

Our clients opted for all new pieces from Restoration Hardware. They chose the beautiful St. James Collection to update the classic and traditional lines already established in their family home. We love the gray wash finish. With plans to build within the next few years, these pieces will easily transition to their new space.

Knowing that resale was on their mind, we highlighted the importance of refreshing the master bedroom to meet their current needs, but also prep for sale. Therefore, we recommended a neutral color palette richly layered with navy, gold, and blue accents. We opted for one of our favorite go-to neutrals, Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams.

The most important aspect of any bedroom refresh is layering the perfect amount of texture and pattern to provide that lush, hotel like bedding feel. We really wanted this space to feel like a retreat and a sanctuary at the end of a long day.

Design tip: Utilize a solid, slightly patterned coverlet as your main backdrop, and accent with rich textures such as this velvet duvet. Pillows in varying sizes, patterns, and colors also help pull the entire space together.

We absolutely love playing with pattern, and this gorgeous 9×12 rug from Rugs USA was just what this space needed to ground the room and provide the depth this neutral palette needed. It’s one of our favorite pieces in the space, and was definitely our inspiration.

We created balance with the queen bed by using larger nightstands, which we love for their scale and function. In their new build, the clients will have taller ceilings, so we opted for these oversized mirrors. Additionally, we selected table lamps with sleek modern lines and materials. An upholstered bench near the window is convenient for relaxing, and it’s light blue color ties in nicely with the rug and bedding.

We worked to incorporate the clients desire of a mounted TV into the design, and hung 8×10 frames on either side to allow them to feature important family photos. Adding in a natural woven basket and throw, we were able to balance the whole look and soften the harder edges of the metal frames and solid wood dresser. Simple but layered decor items were used to bring interest to the dresser surface, including greenery, a mirrored jewelry case, and varying frames and candles. A custom cornice helped hide the existing shades.

Neutral doesn’t have to be boring! Layer subtle pattern, texture, and a simplified color scheme for a sophisticated and tranquil master bedroom retreat.
